One of the most curious issues for athletes who undergo jaw surgery is the following:
"Can I get back in the ring after this?"
Yes, you can return. And with the right healing process, your jaw will be as strong as before.
When can you return to the ring?
After jaw surgery, basic healing takes place within 2 months on average. During this period, the jawbone has largely fused and stabilised. After this stage:
- Non-graded, light training can be started.
- After 6 months, the jaw structure is completely strengthened and it is safe to participate in professional competitions.
In other words, it is possible to return to sports with a patient rehabilitation process after surgery.
Will my jaw be as strong as before?
Definitely yes.
The surgically fixed jawbone gains a very robust structure thanks to titanium plates that turn back into bone over time. After the correct fusion and muscle harmony is achieved, the jaw is functionally and mechanically as strong as before.
